Intro to Whitewater
Our legendary annual Intro to WW weekend! If you've always wanted to try whitewater paddling but weren't sure where to start, this one's for you!
Where?
Held at what is probably the finest venue in the country for your first steps on whitewater, Mile End Mill at Llangollen in North Wales. There's a car park adjacent to the paddling and a cafe and changing rooms on site - a rarity for whitewater paddling in the UK!
Accommodation to be confirmed, but is likely to be a bunkhouse, breakfast provided. Dinner in a local hostelry.
Who?
If you've completed your Explore Award then this might be for you. You need precise boat control and a good grasp of edging, as well as good forward paddle technique. We're running two kinds of pre-trip training sessions during the summer:
- Flatwater techniques for dynamic water
- Pre-trip training at Yalding
It would be ideal if you can attend both of these, but if not then please drop me a line - we can go for a paddle and assess options.
If you're a junior paddler, please speak to John Simmonds before signing up.
What?
A fully-coached weekend. We'll have a couple of whitewater coaches and work in small groups in a controlled environment. On Saturday morning we'll work on eddying in and out, at a single location near the cars. Saturday afternoon we'll run some small features together. On the Sunday we may do a river trip practicing the skills we've learned, depending on the needs of the group.
How Much?
Total cost for the weekend will likely be around £70, which covers accommodation, breakfast, and any water fees. Final costs TBC once we have an idea of numbers. Travel costs will be in addition - we'll try to share vehicles. There's a £50 deposit to secure your place (returnable if you cancel with enough notice).
- £50 per junior
- £50 per adult
